Public lecture series
Lectures consist of a panel of infrastructure experts (faculty and staff members) that will be invited to jointly present the academic and operational sides of course topic areas. The presentations will cover the present infrastructure at UBC, the latest developments in the field and the potential for UBC to move in a more sustainable direction. Lectures held on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00pm and are open to all members of the UBC community.
Discussion seminar
On Thursdays, students will participate in a seminar discussion to examine the themes covered in the weekly lecture series and learn concepts required for the group projects. Throughout the term, each student will present a critique of a course reading.
Group project
Groups of students will work together to complete pre-defined final projects under the SEEDs umbrella. These projects will be presented at the end of the semester and delivered to the UBC Operations Staff. Some time for group work will be scheduled into seminar sessions. The majority of group work will need to be accomplished outside of class time.
In 2011, groups worked on the following projects (available soon in the SEEDS LIBRARY)
- Sustainability Options Assessment for Biomass Fuel Sources on UBC Point Grey Campus
- Sustainability Options Assessment for Waste-water Treatment on UBC Point Grey Campus
- Sustainability Options Assessment for Water Conservation on UBC Point Grey Campus
