APSC 364: Goals and Objectives

This course integrates teaching, learning and research on sustainability to inform and contribute to the long-term strategic development at UBC. Students will work under the supervision of a group of graduate students and interact with UBC staff members and leading researchers. The aim of the course is to increase your understanding of the theories and practicalities underlying the implementation of sustainability at the community level.

General learning objectives are that you:

a. Acquire basic knowledge about some of the operational systems on Campus
b. Increase your understanding of broad concepts about sustainability
c. Develop your ability to integrate a and b
d. Explore ways to extrapolate lessons from the UBC Campus to community planning and development in general
e. Practice integrating academic knowledge in a real-world client specified project
f. Gain experience with the practicalities of completing a project with pre-defined targets for a client
g. Develop your ability to carry out a project in a collaborative, academically diverse setting
