The Director is a faculty member who provides administrative, intellectual, social, and academic leadership to IRES which includes leading the strategic development of the unit. The Director is responsible for the well-being of those who are active in IRES and strives to provide a welcoming, generous and intellectually stimulating climate. Students, staff, faculty members or visiting scholars who have concerns should request a meeting with the Director who will take appropriate action.
The Director also
• Maintains a continuous dialogue with CFIS Principal’s Office
• Liaises with Faculty Relations, the Equity Office and other UBC units
• Manages and sits of various departmental committees, including the Management committee, admissions committee and the curriculum committee.
• Meets annually with IRES core faculty members to discuss their work load and future plans.
• Meets with representatives from the RMES Student Society three to four times per semester
• Meets weekly with the Administrative Manager
• Meets once per semester with IRES Graduate Advisors, Fisheries Director and the Graduate Program Manager.
• The Director consults widely before making decisions regarding for example governance structure, policies and procedures, supervisory load and committee membership.

Gillian is responsible for all appointments in IRES and helps people new to the department acclimatize and find their bearings.

Kyle acts as a contact point for faculty and students regarding student related matters. He coordinates everything from admissions to graduation and all that comes in between.
